We used to go to Arp to Mr. Rodgers’ store. A ‘general’ store in the true sense of the word. My dad and I would go there at night for movies. This gentleman would come around with a projector and old cowboy movies. He’d put a sheet up on the side of the store and show the movies. Later he’d pass the hat around for whatever people could afford to donate. This was back in the early 50’s. We lived approximately a mile from Arp.

My son Adam introduced me to your Vanishing South Georgia site, Brian, and I am thoroughly enjoying it! I live outside Arp in the house my grandparents bought in 1929, where my mother and uncles all grew up. The picture with the railroad crossing sign reminds me of years ago when passenger trains used this line: my foster uncle had a sister in the Miami area whom he visited yearly, and they’d flag down the train which would stop in Arp for him to get on!
