Originally part of the Martin group, the President Theatre was designed by Atlanta architects McKendree Tucker and Albert Howell. It was named the President, of course, for FDR’s association with the area. After many years of serving Manchester, it closed in the 1980s. It’s being completely restored and is back in business.
Thank you for your mention of our President Theatre. Just to update a bit – we’ve continued the restoration process and the last remaining work should be completed by November 1, 2017 with a grand re-opening announcement following. New phone contact is Tripp Taylor 706-587-3721 or email at tripptaylor2017@gmail.com. New website should be online with another week…www.presidenttheatre.com.
the President Theatre’s website is online as well as our FB page with some update renovation photos. The final renovations are in progress and we are so hoping for a late Fall grand-opening.
Fantastic Brian, Thanks for posting! Did you ever see the “Flash Gordon’s Trip to Mars” serialized movie which I believe originally came in the mid 30’s? I think architects Tucker and Howell almost certainly did!
I’ve seen bits of it on YouTube or something like that and yes, they must have seen it!
