I had a nice visit with Mr. Usry, who owns this property. He noted that it was moved to this location many years ago after serving as the schoolhouse for the community of Grange, in Jefferson County. It’s been used as a storage facility for many years.
My grandfather John Franklin Carswell taught in Grange during the early 1900’s. Could this be the schoolhouse where he taught? He later lived in Avera, Georgia, also in Jefferson County, before moving to Augusta where his boys attended Richmond Academy and the girls attended Tubman.
