Originally named Barn Creek, this tidal creek was integral to Thomas Spalding’s operations at Long Tabby and served as a central shipping point for the sugar cane and molasses produced by his enslaved laborers. This was also the location for arriving and departing mail boats. By 1885 a post office was established here and Barn Creek eventually became known as Post Office Creek.
