Shiloh Church, DeSoto

This historic church was located just outside DeSoto near Chokee Creek. The photo dates to 2008, and I think the church is gone now. I haven’t been able to track down any history of the congregation but I believe it was African-American.

The Ferguson Store was located on the ground level of the DeSoto Masonic lodge. It was most recently a nightclub known as Disco D’s Warehouse.

DeSoto Banking Company, 1910

Tilework like this graced the entrances of many important commercial buildings in the first decade of the 20th century, especially banks. This one denotes the date of construction instead of the name of the business.

Cast iron foot plates like this one were also common accessories for well-established businesses of the early 20th century.
