This is nice example of the Georgian Cottage style, quite common in Effingham County in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The property was once a small farm, and still has a livestock barn out back.
It’s located at a crossroad community once known as Blandford, which is all but forgotten today and essentially part of Rincon. A post office operated at Blandford for just two years, 1909-1911. This was probably due to the location of the railroad through the area. A depot was probably never built but a “siding” or shipment point would have been located here. Rapid urbanization in south Effingham County is making communities like this nearly indistinguishable and the growth is only accelerating.
