Milford is one of the oldest communities in Baker County, perhaps predating its establishment in 1825. The name comes from Mill’s Ford, the site of a mill on the Ichawaynochaway Creek. Two brothers by the name of Welch established a store here in the early days of settlement and shortened the community’s name to Milford, after their hometown in Connecticut. A post office served Milford from 1852-1904.
