This is one of several Queen Anne Folk Victorian cottages in the area.

One of the most historic buildings in Rhine, this eclectic Neoclassical with Victorian details originally stood a few hundred feet away at the corner of Central Street and 2nd Street.

Hart Mizell writes that this structure: “…was built in 1890 and was originally the “Mizell Hotel.” …The owner/proprietor Griffin Mizell was my great-great-great grandfather. He was a Civil War veteran and [early] mayor of Rhine, [elected in 1894]. He served as the mayor for two decades...”

The building in the left foreground is the old Earl Theatre, built in 1952. Milan is located in both Dodge and Telfair counties, but I’ve usually associated it most with Dodge County.

Though a modern roof line was added at some point, the building on the corner has wonderful intact fanlights. According to Louie Harper, this was originally the Williams Banking Company building.

I believe this one of several houses in Rhine that date to around the time of the town’s incorporation.

This church as built in 1889.

Russ Hickman writes: “This was the Bank of Rhine. The president was my great uncle, Robert Ephraim Ponder. He closed the bank in 1935 and paid off all depositors in full according to his grandson, Scott Parks.“
