Hall and Parlor Cottage, Tibet

I was looking for the old Tibet voting precinct when I saw this. It’s a great old vernacular house of a style once very common near the coast but quickly vanishing. A post office at Tibet [prounounced tib-it, not tuh-bet] operated from 1900-1914. It was located in Liberty County until the establishment of Long County in 1920. The name may have originated with a plantation but by the time it had a post office, it was likely a turpentine village.

Tibet Baptist Church, Long County

Tibet Baptist Church is the most visible landmark of the Tibet (prounounced tib-it) in southeastern Long County. I have been unable to locate a history of the congregation, though I believe this structure replaced an earlier building.

Bobtown Hunting Club, Tibet

Trelice Swindell writes: This house was owned by Charles Easterling’s parents…part of it was an original log cabin. Roger Easterling adds: This house was originally owned by Charles Milton Easterling, and then Ernest Easterling. The log cabin portion was built around 1850 according to Charlie Easterling .
