The monument at Evergreen is particularly moving.
Like many communities in South Georgia, Fitzgerald had a contingent of Jewish shopkeepers and merchants; but unlike most, Fitzgerald has managed to keep its temple and still has an active Jewish community, albeit much smaller than it once was. Fitzgerald is the smallest town in Georgia with a synagogue.
