Gene Raper writes: The building is still there, covered in vegetation and slowly rotting away. This was a combination gas station, small selection of groceries, and social gathering place. This was the ‘place to go’ to kill time on the weekend. Everyone called it the ‘Creek Store’. Teenagers and older men were all welcome there. Us kids could play the pinball machine, watch ‘crap games’, or grab a fishing pole and walk to the creek to try and catch a ‘little redeye’ because that was as big as the fish grew. I never saw one larger than three fingers caught.

This looks just like the creek store that was right next to the creek going on the way to Lilly. I don’t remember the cost of gas but we would get a dollars worth of gas in our friends car and ride for days to Vienna High School (CUBS). We would put it on Preacher Cawthon’s tab……that did not last for very long!
