Thomas Mercantile Company, Calvary

Amazingly, this store is still in business. They’re closed on Sundays, but otherwise, it’s wonderful to see a small business like this still in operation. They’re usually quite busy.

Thomas Mercantile was a valued long-time customer of my family’s wholesale hardware business in Savannah (1896–1983), along with many others in the area, including FRM Feed Store in nearby Havana, FL. I worked many of their orders, as a summer order clerk, in high school and college. I am glad to see it is still in business. It is no doubt still a mainstay of the town.

You’re welcome. I can ask Mr. Thomas (or his son) how long they’ve been there (I can’t remember). We live next door to them and across the road from the store. The photo should actually include the left side as well, that’s where the gas pumps are. 🙂

This store is owned an operated by my Uncle Gerald Thomas and his family. Great to see these images of Calvary.

Glad you like the images, Jimmy. Is the store still in business, and do you know how long it’s been in business?

I truly find this a interesting subject. Never looked at this subject in this way. If you are going to write more articles about this subject, I will be back in the near future!
