My family has lived in Fayette County, Ga. since the 1700’s and lived in a house similar to the one above. I found my Grandmother’s old Record book. It is noted – Record Book for tar house and dated 4/29/36. In it are incomes and expenditures. I wondered what a tar house is and found this site. The siding on the house above looks like the old house my Grandparents and great grand parents lived in. Is it the siding that gives it the name. Do you know anything about the material? Adding this to family history story and curious. By the way, love the material in this site.
