This Dixie station has been here at least since the 1970s. I remember it from trips through Adel. It’s been abandoned for many years.

Was this on US 41 before I-75 was open?
I might be mistaken but I think this was what used to be Purvis’ Service Station. Mr. Terrell Purvis was such a sweet man. It was the first gas station we’d come to when we drove into town from our house and where we always bought gas. There used to be an old Coke machine there and it was always a treat for my Daddy or Grandaddy to buy one for me. They’d sit me up on top of the chest while I drank it then they’d turn the bottle back in.
No, Purvis’ was located south of the Dixie Station. Purvis’ station was across from the Adel Methodist Church. The Dixie Station was next to the Cook County Courthouse.
Im from Lenox, and I was told that the Dixie oil Company was started in Lenox.
the dixie gas stations were a groupe of stations in south georgia that were owned by a family of lindseys of tift county -there is still one operated in adel on west 4th street
Actually the family and founder were Lindseys from Lenox, GA. The headquarters building for Dixie Oil company used to be out on US HWY 82 East on the east side of Tifton just past where US HWY 319 splits off and heads towards Ocilla. Now the office is in an old house that also houses a chiropractor’s office across the street from the north side of the Tifton Post Office.
This station has now been reopened. Stop in and buy some bait and tackle some time!
Next time I’m through Adel, I will. Thanks Vickie…
We were from Nashville, Ga and my father was in the cigarette machine business—We had a machine at this station years ago!!!
