Located between Jacksonville and Lumber City, the Orianne Indigo Snake Preserve is a largely undisturbed area of longleaf pine, sand hills, bottom land forests and swamps along the Ocmulgee River set aside to help protect the Indigo Snake (Drymarchon couperi) and associated species.

We discovered a large indigo while cleaning out an old barn. We are about 2 miles south of McRae. It was beautiful. We hate that we messed up some of its habitat but hopefully it will hang around anyway as we have a lot of places for it to hide. In the past we have had rattlesnakes every year but this year we have only encountered rat, corn, king, and now the indigo.
