Update, 17 August 2026: I photographed the shrimp boat “Miss Lewis” in 2011. It appeared to have been long out of service at this time. Various resources state it was built circa 1972 by the Sawyer family and was later owned and operated by Bill Joiner and Louise Brown. I presume it’s the same vessel; a 1976 photograph of the “Miss Lewis”, held by the Georgia Archives, appears to be the same boat. A 2026 Georgia Outdoor News article references the “wreck of the shrimp boat Miss Lewis” near General’s Cut on the Darien River, which indicates it was sunk at some point, perhaps on purpose as it was no longer useful.
