Commercial buildings like this, often called “blocks”, could be found in almost any South Georgia town in the late-19th and early-20th centuries and are still somewhat common. This is one of the nicest remaining in Jesup. Thanks to Kim Westberry for the identification.
Samuel Elias Cohen was married to Adele Bloch, my grandmother Anna’s sister. The two women had a store in Manhattan. Sam went on a buying trip to New York, went to their store and fell in love with my Aunt Adele. They could not marry until my grandma did because she was older. The family always told me about the store in Jesup and about Sam being so well liked that he became the mayor. It is wonderful to see their home, business building and there are the stories that I was told so many years ago. They raised two children, Solomon and Alice, A baby Jacob died at age 2. Alice married a Phillip Sussman but I know no more. Solomon married Claire Weltz and had Cecelia and Sanford. They both have descendants. Vivian Shore Zelvin
these buildings were owned by my family for years… This is called the Tuten Block. I’m not sure where that name came from, I’m sure it originated before my family bought the buildings. We sold the corner building and the building next to it, a couple of years ago. My dad still owns the part of the building that houses my brother’s business, Stereo Concepts.

This picture was great..My mother was born in 1914 in Jesup Georgia..I was born in Jesup in 1945..many of my relatives were borned in Jesup going back to 1812..I look forward to these pictures…My maternail Grandparents worked a 450 acre farm in Jesup
