Hobby Farmhouse, Turner County

David Hobby writes: That house was built by Lawson Hobby and Tempy Smith Hobby. Tempy Smith was the daughter of Rebecca Douglas Smith who the town of Rebecca was named after. That house is on land originally settled by the Jonathan Smith family. My Great-Grandmother, Tempy Smith Hobby, was born, married and died on that farm.

My name is Caroline Hobby, my father is Scott Hobby, and my grandfather (recently passed) is Lawson Hobby. I’m unsure of who this belongs to- any further explanation?

I honestly don’t know anything beyond what the commenter said. If it is not associated with your family, I’ll gladly remove this identification.

No need to remove! I’m sure it is. My Dad’s family is from Rebecca/Ashburn, GA- just wondering more about the farm is all.

I believe Jesse Lawson Hobby was a saloon keeper in Rochelle, Wilcox Co. for a few years circa 1900-1910. I’ve only found him mentioned in that capacity as “L. Hobby” but he’s of the right age and in the right places in the census either side of that stint.
