It’s hard to miss this shotgun house with the Western Union sign. I lived across the road from this structure for 15 years and was a good friend of its owner, Danny McDonald(deceased). There is another identical tenant house on the farm just down the road next to his residence. Danny told me they once had a Russian man and his wife living in this one. The man was a heavy drinker and one night his wife had had enough and killed him with a shotgun.

I grew up in Wayne County, and I’ve traveled Holmesville Rd 1000 times. I don’t remember seeing this old building. A lot of the land out that way is or used to be owned by the Harris family. My aunt was a Harris, but she’s gone now. She probably would have known who owned it, and what it was used for. Brings back memories.

Red, that is just a modern plastic sign placed to cover a window. Good guess, though!
The owner, Danny McDonald, found that sign and nailed it over the broken window sometime in the mid 2000’s.
