The meeting house of Ramah Primitive Baptist Church stands empty today, largely unchanged from the time its congregation disbanded in 1979.

The interior has the typical appearance of its nearby cousins, the Crawfordites. The date of the structure is not known, but the congregation was established in 1873.

My maternal great grandparents and grandparents are all buried in the Ramah Church cemetery. I visited it often as a child and as often as possible as an adult. There was an old hand pump beside the church. My siblings and I were always so excited to pump the water and drink it straight from the hand pump. The building is in very bad disrepair now. I wish something could be done to save it.
I went to this Church for Big Meeting several times. Love the singing and the ceremonial Foot Washings. Some really good people went to this church.
I love the term Big Meeting. I know your memories must be wonderful, Melba.
It was a special place. My Mom was a member, Esther Cason Duncan.
Any connection to New Ramah Church (recently torn down) in Ray City?
The interior looks older than the exterior.
The asbestos was a late addition, I’m sure. It looks very out of place. Probably done out of necessity, to save the building at some point.
