If you’ve ever traveled between Warrenton and Gibson, you’ve likely noticed this house. It’s nearly impossible to miss. It looks lonely but well-maintained. It was the home of John Wood Hart (1923-2012) and his wife, Mildred. A lifelong resident of Warren County, Mr. Hart served in the U.S. Army on the 32nd Battalion Company A during World War II. He participated in the first all American Standard built telephone lines in France and Germany and helped build the first lead cable line to cross the Rhine. He was there for the last stand at the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest and was there for the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. He was in all five major land battles in Europe, at Normandy, northern France, The Rhineland and in Central Europe. When the end of the war came in the summer of 1945 his outfit was in the South Pacific for the invasion of Japan.
