This vernacular Craftsman home may be associated with the general store or commissary that stands along the highway directly in front of it; it was common for store owners to live in or near their businesses in the early 1900s.
Notice the side window shades. These seemed to be common to a certain era. Would these have been original to the house construction, or added later? I seem to have noticed these more on houses dating from the 1950’s and 1960’s, before air conditioning became commonplace. But I don’t know about earlier years.
I think these became popular right before or right after World War II. I also remember them from my childhood on houses of a certain era.
