I was just talking to my Mom and she remember either….I was a little to young to remember. I remember they always had tires in the front of the store,,,,it was more like a filling station than Dock’s store.

Yes, it was Alice and Tom Harry Andrews store. They carried groceries, meat, cheese, etc.
And Aunt Alice was Uncle Doc’s sister.

Does this mean Uncle Dock is finally famous? Oh the memories! Would love to watch them playing checkers with the bottle caps and the wooden coke crates. Can remember an occasional family pulling up in a mule and wagon. And drinks with ice shivers!

This is to Laura Pridgen. Was your grandfather Jimmy Pridgen? The reason I ask is because in 1971 I was on a bicycle trip and a man by the name of Jimmy Pridgen gave me a ride into Pridgen Ga. I put my bicycle in the back of his pick-up truck and we drove around Pridgen. As we drove around Pridgen he showed me his farm land he shared with me a number of stories about his life. One of them was how when his son was very little he would put him on his lap while he plowed his fields. He also told me that the town was named after his grandfather. If I remember, Jimmy would have been maybe in his 40’s or mabe early fifties when I met him, and I think his son might have been in his 20’s.

      Hello Winsor,
It is always good to hear a good Pridgen story. I am not sure about Jimmy Pridgen…but his story and my grandfather’s story sound about the same so I am sure they were kin in some way! I would have to ask my Mom if she knows Jimmy….
So do you live close to Pridgen? I was just there in Pridgen this past April…as there is not much to see as my grandfathers house is no longer there due to a fire….but it was nice to see that they had named a road after my PaPa … Arthur Pridgen Rd.

Jimmy Pridgen was married to my cousin and has since passed away. His children still live in the Pridgen Community. Jimmy was a very hard worker and good man.

My grandfather, Arthur Pridgen used to take us (myself, Angelia & Brad) to this store and buy us penny candy….I always loved going.
