Jones Creek Baptist Church is the oldest and most historic church in Long County. The congregation was organized in 1810 and first met in a brush arbor until building a log meetinghouse in 1819, which was used until the construction of a frame building in 1832. To accommodate a growing congregation, the present structure replaced it in 1856. From A History of Jones Creek Baptist Church, Long County, Georgia by Elmer Oris Parker.

So excited to find out I have founding family there. (Sullivan/Chapman) I am early into genealogy research and to find some rich history not far from home is amazing. I will be visiting this cemetery soon…..Great pictures, thanks!
I agree with you. I am also related to the Chapman family.
Moses Westberry was the ancestor of Mrs. Wilma Minix of Athens, Ga. Wilma, along with her late husband, Ed Minix, owned the lovely “Black Witch Farm” on Hwy 53 just south of Braselton, Ga. Ed was the manager of The Varsity in Atlanta for many years.
My grandfather and father grew up attending Jones Creek Baptist Church. My grandparents and great grandparents are buried in the cemetery there.
I know I have said this before, but I can’t find my post.
My 6th great grandfather Moses Westberry and John Goldwire and 13 members of Beard’s Creek baptist Church organized Jones Creek Baptist Church April 22nd 1810.
Moses preached there for 40 years. Moses also helped to organized the Piedmont Baptist Association Oct 20 1815. He married Elizabeth Brown they had 7 children, she died 1812. He then married Elizabeth Bennett they had 4 children. it was said to be the 9th oldest church in Georgia.
It’s a wonderful old church…
