Precinct House, Carnegie

This precinct house is no longer in use, but served Carnegie for many years. It may be referred to as the Carnegie Courthouse, as that’s a common identification for precinct houses in this area.

The interior is virtually unchanged from the last time it was used for voting.

I’m grateful to Robert Andrews, a cane syrup maker, for sharing its history with me on a cold and bitter day, and for sending me a bottle of his excellent syrup.

My grandmother was born in Bronwood near the end of 1890s She was Clara Miller. Her mother was Camilla. I don’t know anything else about her parents. She was married to Dr. Claude Gibson Hooten. My father Dr. William S. Hooten was born in Bronwoodon April 11, 1918. I don’t know anything about their lives in Bronwood at all. Any help? Thank you. I’m Dr Hooten’s 1st son.
