Freight Warehouse, Bronwood

I’m not sure if this was associated with a local business or a railroad, but I’m sure it’s a freight warehouse of some kind.

The building near the rail siding in Bronwood could have been associated with the railroad, but there doesn’t appear to be a loading dock or door on the building side facing the tracks to facilliate the loading or unloading of freight.

For much of the last century, this was the Central of Georgia Railway route from Americus to Dawson and beyond. The route went through several ownership changes and eventually became owned by a short line company called the Georgia Southwestern Railroad, which (I think) has offices in Dawson.

Brian, thanks your work on Bronwood. I am literally sadden by the loss of those historical buildings there. Would it be ok to use, with attribution of course, the pics of the demolished buildings in telling the story of my family history relative to Bronwood, perhaps at our initial family reunion in Sept. 2020? I recently discovered that my ancestral relative William Mallory was born there in 1832. He was African American. I am researching whether he was enslaved and if so by whom, whether there are whites in our family tree.. I plan to visit Bronwood in the near future. Do you have any other info on Bronwood or suggestions that might be helpful in my research, maybe sources that I could interview or write to?
    thanks,
    Hank Mallory

There is a family owned furniture store there, it has been pass down for generations. I went looking for information on my family and someone directed me there. I’m not sure of the name of the store, but the guy there has a lot of information. Maybe you could interview him. Hopefully he’s still there, it’s been about 6 years since I’ve been there.
