Cusseta, Georgia

Cusseta was incorporated as the seat of the newly formed Chattahoochee County in 1855. It was named for a nearby peace town of the Lower Creek confederacy, known as Kasihta. It is the only incorporated municipality in Chattahoochee County.

I lived there for three years in early 60s and remember the country store where we would stop walking home from school for a snack. Usually cheese, bologna, or a pickle. My dad was a Master Sargeant at Fort Benning from 59 to 62 and my youngest brother was born there.

The filling station here was a Phillips 66. I lived in Cusseta in the 60s and this station was on the other end of the “main drag” from the Bay Station Sign. A friend’s father operated it.
