Restored several years ago, this early 1900s mural adorns the side of the Fort Gaines Museum [formerly the Sutton’s Corner Museum]. It contains a recovered 1840s frontier store and a mind-boggling collection of rural artifacts.

A previous restoration of this sign was a gift to Fort Gaines by “Red” Hall, a longtime officer in the CocaCola Company. Mr. Hall was the husband of a Fort Gaines native, Virginia Grimsley Hall.
I took a picture of this around 1990 when it looked great. Glad to hear that it has been restored again.
THIS SIGN HAS BEEN AGAIN RESTORED BY THE FORT GAINES HISTORICAL SOCIETY, INC. WES HARDIN, NOTED MURALIST, DID THE WORK IN JULY 2011. IT IS PRESERVED FROM FURTHER DETERIORATION FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO ENJOY.
