Wynette & Tommy’s Restaurant, Clay County

This place doesn’t look so special, but it was a well-loved landmark in Clay County for many years. Iris Thomas notes that it was first owned by Lindy Bryan, then it was known as Tommy & Lindy’s. Todd Simpson writes: This place was officially “Tommy’s” but everyone called it the “Fish Camp”. Lou Hobbs Engelhart recalls: Good food, good fellowship and good memories have been had at Tommy’s. We all miss another specialty … ‘Miss’ Wynette.

One of my all time favorites. Best catfish and frog legs anywhere. Loved Miss Wynette and knew Tommy and Lindy very well. Whoever bought the restaurant first, fixed up the building and this and that, nice, but the first I went there after it reopened, no one there. Frozen hush puppies, higher prices. It flopped. What a shame.

My Dads place. Lindy Bryan Sr. Most folks probably don’t remember, it started out, Brookins and Bryans(Bobby Brookins and Lindy Bryan) Then Lindy’s Fish Center, mostly known as the Fish Camp. Then, Lindy’s and Tommy’s Fish Center (Tommy Bryan who was Lindys brother) Then after Dad passed away in 1980, it became Tommy and Wynettes. (Tommys Wife)
Grew up there. Lots of great memories!!!

Tommy’s has great catfish and frog legs. My folks have a lake house outside of Fort Gainse and stop here often.

My mom & dad had a lake house near here on Lake George just north of Fort Gaines. Tommy’s was their favorite all you can eat catfish restuarant and my wife & kids went there with them often. Did not look like much, but the food was great!
