Doc Thomas House, Tattnall County

Ronnie Thomas, a descendant of the original owner (Rufus Thomas), explains that this was originally the kitchen of a farmhouse about a mile away on Georgia Highway 121, which was later removed to this location. It’s also referred to as the “Doc House”, for Ronnie’s Uncle Doc, the last family member to live here. Three Thomas sisters also lived here at one time: Lyndal Thomas Tatum, Joann Thomas, and Anita Thomas Kelley.

The Annie House has since been taken down by my uncle Ronnie that just posted a comment. My mother, Wanda Thomas Lopez, lives next door to where the old Annie house stood. Depending on when you took the picture of The Annie House you may have spoken to a family friend that lived next door until my mama moved in.

This house has been part of the Rufus Thomas Family Farm for many years. We call it the Doc House since our Uncle Doc was the last family member to live there. It was originally the kitchen of a house about a mile up Hwy 121. Through the years, it has been home to three of the Thomas sisters, Lyndal (Tatum), Joann and Anita (Kelley), as well as numerous renters and a few squatters in more recent years.

Thanks, Ronnie. I will just call it the Rufus Thomas House and explain that it was a part of the structure. Are you related to the people who have the “Annie House”? I met a lady there when I photographed but can’t recall her name. She lived next door…

Hey Brian, yes, my wife Susan and I took down the Annie House and salvaged about 90% of the original materials to reuse when we build our retirement home across the branch in a couple of years. You probably talked to my sister Wanda.

This was actually the back part/kitchen that was attached to my maternal grandfather’s tenant house. It is now located on my aunt & uncle’s property.
