Soon after I photographed this church, it was torn down. A newer church was built.

Yes, this building was torn down. The steeple was removed and has since been donated to another church in neighboring Houston County.
Church is now gone and is just a vacant lot
My Grandmother Flois Noni Chance Smith was a lifelong member. She passed away in 2002 at age 94. At that time she was the oldest living member of Mt. Zion. It was there in the cemetery at Mt. Zion my then 18 year old daughter said she made her first emotional connections with history. She saw headstones of relatives who had lived in 1811.
Sadly, they’re planning to tear it down in 2 or 3 weeks. 🙁
