Drayton Baptist Church, Dooly County

This congregation was established in 1854 as Shiloh Baptist Church. It was renamed Drayton Baptist Church in 1889.

    Drayton still has many members who would love to sure the history of the church. The Vaughn and Bowen families are two that I remember having been pillars of the church.

    These churches in Dooly County, GA at least of with two are still extremely active. Information can be gather from one of the ladies in the city hall at Vienna, GA the current and initial county seat although it was know as Berlin prior to the move to Drayton.

    Amazingly enough, these great vernacular ized Greek revival churches have resisted the ubiquitous plastic steeples that have plagued many rural churches. Keep them pure!
