I first thought this to be a house in the style of an old school building, but it was an old school. JEP writes: This was a school house, probably early part of last century. Then when the new brick school was open about 50 yards away, this building became the lunchroom. Rain, sleet or snow, students had to walk over to this building for lunch. Around 1965 both buildings were closed and students had to go to Sardis to school. The town, Girard, eventually restored this building and it is rented out for assorted functions. Receptions, parties, etc. The brick school was restored for the same purpose, and also houses trauma EMTs/Fire as well as city hall.
I believe this is now a private residence.

Not a private residence.
Judy, didn’t we have a couple of family reunions there. Looks very familar
Since its restoration, and as of this date, Nov. 2, 2016, this is still a “community building” and can be rented from the city of Girard (as stated by jep.)

My father was Girard Elementary school principal from 1956 to 1960 and we lived in the principal’s house past a two story brick that once was a school. I ate lunch in that building for three years.
Mrs. Ellison was our next door neighbor and was an elementary teacher who had a classroom in the white building that was used as a lunchroom.
My dad and I visited frequently with Mr, Odum who owned Girard filling station. Great memories!
Patricia, I was astonished to see you here and have wondered about you for a long time. I am Jessie Ellison’s grandaughter, and I remember you very well. We were about the same age, and I saw you when visiting my grandma, and you were just next door. I remember playing with you, and
spending the night with you at your house next door. I still have my grandma’s yellow and chrome step stool, which you and I argued over who should have that honored seat at snack time. My grandma always gave you the seat, saying you were our guest. Well I still have that step stool and nanny nanny boo boo, can sit in it any time now. It’s great to see you here, and I hope you are well and happy!
