Donaldson-Simmons House, Statesboro

A large white Victorian-style house with a pointed roof, featuring a wide porch with columns and red steps, surrounded by landscaped greenery and trees.

This appears to have originally been a Queen Anne cottage. Will Simmons relays that his grandfather, Bill H. Simmons (1883-1949), did a lot of renovations to the house. These probably included the porch.

The Simmons in the name that you gave this house was my grandfather Bill H Simmons. Never heard it referred to this way. Can you tell me who the first owner was? Where did you get the information? Was told that he had bought it but not who from. Think that he did quite a lot of renovation after acquiring it. My grandfather died in 1949 and when my grandmother died in 1956 the house was sold to the Controller of Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University). Though it is no longer in the family seeing it, or a picture of it, invokes fond memories of visits and gatherings there.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I will follow up with the library on this. Was also told to ask the Bulloch County Historical society if they have any in formation on the house. Will let you know if I ever get the answer to my question about the original owner.
