This marker tells the history of the cemetery: On December 6, 1882, this one acre of land was donated by Rachel Clements Clark to assure a proper burial place for her mother Elizabeth Turner Clements, the first person laid to rest in the family cemetery. Rachel’s act of love and concern has provided a peaceful resting place for her future generations. Heaven awaits those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior according to His promise of Everlasting Life.
I first photographed it on 5 June 2008, and it was among my very first posts on this site. At that time, it was known as Ebenezer for some reason.
Though not a large cemetery, this is a well-known landmark on Big Creek Road.
The Ebeniezer sign was put there by my father-in-law, Jacob A. (Jake) Clements because the cemetery was part of Ebeniezer Methodist Church, which was located directly across the road. It is true the land was given by Rachael Clements Clark. I have heard him tell the story many times. He was born in April 1900 and passed away in January 1989.
According to my Great Grandmother Emma Taylor Clements there was a school across the road from the cemetery and it was called Ebenezer school. She taught there and is buried in the cemetery.
My Grandparents and Great Grandparents on my Mothers side (Clements) are buried there. I visited there 2 weeks ago to show respect to them. God bless them because I know they are with you.
