This church was built circa 1896 as McDonald’s Mill M. E. Church. In 1917, McDonalds Mill was renamed Axson to honor the late Ellen Axson Wilson, who served as First Lady of the United States from 1913 until her death in 1914. The church name was changed at this time to Axson Methodist Church.
