I grew up about 3miles out of Mitchell on the Warren/Glascock County line. The store to the right was a grocery / clothing store it was run by H.C Kelly. When I was in elementary school the teacher would let two of us walk to the store to get snacks for the class at recess! (about 1950 ) . To the left of Kelley’s store at the very end was a gas station directly across from it in front was the post office and to the left of it was a huge two story house that has since been torn down . Thank You so much for the pictures I really enjoyed looking at all the old buildings and remembering when they were new!!
Daisy’s Diner has reopened; I believe in July 2016. It’s the only place of business in the downtown that is open.

My grandfather was born in Mitchell in 1921. His last name is Johnson. He passed away about 2 yrs ago or so but a few years before that, we went back there and he told me all about Mitchell and many stories from his childhood. We ate lunch at the little white building next to the mercantile in this picture.

Would you happen to remember anything your grandfather shared about the row of stores pictured? Anything specifically about the 2 stores to the left of the restaurant you ate at?
