I used to run my Dad & Uncle’s electronics store out of the taller building in the first photo in the 70s to early 80s as a kid and then teenager. Way back when there was a Doc office on the 2nd floor. Got to go up there a time or two, interesting stuff sitting around up there at the time.
Used to lock the door at lunch time and walk down to the Tastee Freeze on US 301 to get a take out.
In the afternoon, I’d do the same, to walk across US 280 to Boney’s Pharmacy and get a cherry coke and crackers (yep, fountain coke 😉
Simpler times…….
My first visits to South Georgia were to Claxton. My grandfather, Will Hobbs, was a Methodist minister there. I can remember him picking me and my mother up at the train station. He and my grandmother lived in a house which was next door to a Cocoa Cola bottling plant and down the street from a school. I remember one of my aunts taking me to the school playground so I could play on the slide and swings. I also remember that when I heard a train coming (they ran behind their house) some one would lift me up in the kitchen sink so I could see the train. My cousin went through Claxton about a year ago and said either the house or the Cocoa Cola plant was still there. Ah what memories. Thanks for all of them and the photos.
