Built by Joseph W. Hughes, Sr., before the Civil War, this is one of Long County’s oldest and most historic houses.

We are very proud to say as of April, 2020 we now own this beautiful home! I’m decorating every room for each season and loving every minute of relaxing on the grand front and back porches!

and The Hughes Cemetery, all of my family

My Grandparents purchased this home from the Hughes estate in the early
1930’s! T.L. Howard and Nannie Lou Bryant Howard modernized the kitchen and one bath to standards of that period! The beautiful interior left the hand hewed beams exposed! After the death of my grandfather, who served both Liberty and Long County in the legislature for 35 years, my Uncle Tom, Jr moved in with his wife until his death! Unfortunately his wife willed that no Howard be allowed to purchase it from her estate:( so no longer in the family!

Beautiful house! I’d enjoy knowing the history and seeing pictures of the interior. Where would I find details?

So wonderful to see this beautiful home still standing. My husbands third great grandfather. We visited the family cemetery two years ago but had no idea the home was still there

Mine too. William we need to talk. We are still rooted in Ludowici as well as near the bloody Battle of Noonday Church.
