The iconic Woody’s Store, closed since the 1980s, is one of the most photographed landmarks in North Georgia. Please do not park in the driveways of the property, however, as a private residence shares the property.

I bet the store part was the downstairs section, and the second floor was the family’s residence. That was typical of many small businesses “back then.”
My mother”s father ran a funeral home in downtown Charlottesville, VA, from about 1934 until he died at age 60 in 1960. That was how that building was laid out, with an embalming room in the basement. Charlottesville in those days was a small town, and the University of Virginia was nowhere near the size it is today.

HI Vicki, Can you tell me if you are related by blood to the Woody’s? My 3x great grandfather was John Wesley Woody Sr. His son John Wesley Woody Jr was my 2x great grandfather. Aaron Washington Woody was my great grandfather and Aaron Hobart Woody was my grandfather. I am able to trace my roots to back to Ireland with my 6th great grandfather – Joseph Woody. His son was William, who had son Jonathan.
