Gay Store, 1900s, Springvale

Springvale was incorporated in 1870 and supported a post office from 1885-1995. It’s located in a very picturesque area of Randolph County. The Gay Store building is perhaps its most important remaining architectural/cultural landmark.

I briefly owned the building as it and the house beside it came with some land that I bought next to my home, in 1978. I sold it to Allen Ledden, Jr. Parnell Pafford was the previous owner, and I believe he inherited it from Annie Mae Griffin. It was a general store at one time, but not in my memory (1950’s).

Have you posted this on the website? I am not certain if this is a general store. I will try to find out.

I have, Karan, with a preliminary identification. I hope it’s okay to send you an email regarding a few houses in Cuthbert. If you don’t know them, maybe you know someone who can help.
