C. D. Bolton was a prominent entrepreneur and landowner in Wilkes County. This general store was the busiest in Tignall in its heyday.

I haven’t been able to locate a construction date but I would guess 1910s. It’s an important surviving commercial structure and should be preserved.

My grandmother’s name was Carrie Bolton. She was born in 1906. In Wilkes County Ga, within a couple miles from the C.D. Bolton Store. Her dad was named Tom Bolton, he was related to C.D Bolton somehow. I visited this site 40 years ago and was surprised to see our family name attached to this old general store.
My name is Don Duncan, my great grandfather’s name was Tom Bolton, he was born in Wilkes County GA, where he was a share cropper and lived in the Ed Hardin house. He (they) attended the Reeves Chapel Baptist Church on Sandtown Road. He was related to CD Bolton.
Nice documentation of Tignall.

Thanks, Mark. Information is hard to come by, and I missed quite a few places, but I’ll be back there soon.
