I had a nice visit with Mr. Usry, who owns this property. He noted that it was moved to this location many years ago and though he suggested it may have been a schoolhouse, others have suggested it wasn’t. The side door with a transom would suggest a public purpose, but beyond that, I can’t be sure. It’s been used as a storage facility for many years.

My grandfather John Franklin Carswell taught in Grange during the early 1900’s. Could this be the schoolhouse where he taught? He later lived in Avera, Georgia, also in Jefferson County, before moving to Augusta where his boys attended Richmond Academy and the girls attended Tubman.
I grew up in a house 100 yards from the old school house in Grange. My old home place is still there as well as the old school building. The old Grange school building has not been moved to Glascock County.
I don’t know Mr. Usry or why he thinks that a building on his property in Glascock County is the old Grange schoolhouse.

I was only repeating what I was told. I thought it a bit odd, as well, and will update this. Thanks.
Mr. Jones- I’d love to document the “actual” Grange schoolhouse. I think the only thing I photographed there, or found there, was the old store.
