Dekle-Brown House, Circa 1875, Excelsior

A two-story white wooden house surrounded by greenery, featuring a metal roof, black shutters, and a front porch with American flags.

This house definitely appears to be earlier than 1875, but it is fairly well-documented. It is definitely influenced by the earlier Plantation Plain style so common in the region.

Thanks Brian. Do you know anything about the history of this house? Sure looks as if it could be one of those Plantation Plain houses common in the 1820-1870 era. Is it pre Civil War?

Brian, my Grandmother in Virginia built a house like this around 1900. I looked forward to visiting her every July 4th, for the family reunion. My bedroom was the center window upstairs, over the parlor.
My two Uncles hitched mules to wagon for ride
to Patrick Henry’s home to retrieve bricks after his house was destroyed by lightning.
The bricks were used for the two chimneys!
