This was home to the Stevens Gun Shop and has been a Danville landmark for many years. I believe it was originally a grocery store. Its owner was M. H. Stevens, Jr. (1921-2006), a World War II Air Force veteran, and former postmaster and mail carrier.

Uncle M.H.’s gunshop is probably one of my fondest memories from growing up. He was my dad’s uncle. Walking into the shop where he and Charlie would be sitting around shooting the breeze. Just to left of the door was the large display case where I could get some keychain pocket knives for a quarter. Wish I could have found the sign from the gunshop to keep in the family.
Brian, i am going to be at Hilton Head august 19 – 26. i get very bored sitting around that condo all day and like to make day trips in the area. one area i am interested in is the coastal area between the Savannah River and the Altimaha i know a lot of these islands can only be reached by boat but some can be driven to by car. i know you have posted old buildings in the area and i wondered if you could give me some thoughts to the area that i may enjoy ie old plantations, fishing villiages, hunting plantations, and other historic sights that i can find on a map….thanks i am a subscriber of yours.. My husband and I use to go there a lot. Mr. Bellflower use to run the gun store. He was the last person to take over it. So sorry he is gone now. My husband sure misses him.
I visited there back when it was in operation. I took a gun collector friend, who was impressed with the gun collection.
