Coverdale Handi-Mart and Supply, Turner County

While technically not a ghost town, Coverdale is a small place. It was originally known as Cloverdale, but an error by a post office official changed the name to Coverdale. Locals still know it as Cloverdale. The store has probably been around about as long as the community has been in existence and has had few owners. A post office served C(l)overdale from 1914-1922.

My Twiggs Co. commissioners and the USPS haven’t got it together either. When a major highway was built connecting Macon and Cochran people started calling it the Cochran Short Route, and still do. The official name per the USPS and the county commissioners is GA Highway 129. The road is US Hwy. 129 Alternate, not just 129. It’s US Hwy 129, not Georgia Hwy. 129. However, it is Georgia Highway 87 also and US Highway 23 also. I contacted both the USPS and the county commissioners, but, typical government response – neither did anything. Still wrong, still just putting up with it.
