William Benjamin Hart House, 1899, Georgetown

I photographed this large Queen Anne home in 2014. Since then, the trees have been removed but the fence remains. It’s an imposing presence on Main Street in tiny Georgetown. It was built by William Benjamin Hart, Sr. Mr. Hart was born in 1859, but according to Findagrave, his date of death is unknown [at least at that resource]. His wife was Anna Amanda Moore Hart (1864-1926). The house was still owned by the family as late as the 1970s, and may still be.

Hey, Brian. This is Lamar Sanders. My grandfather, Edd Avra owned this house from the late 1940’s to maybe the 1970’s. He had mule farmed the river bottoms of the Chattahoochee River between Georgetown and Omaha, Ga., sold the farm, then lived in this house, and ran a little store in the building next to it, appropriately called “Hardrock Grocery”, after his nickname. The people who bought it fixed it up very nicely. When I was a boy inn the 1940’s, he would give us comic books, cokes, ice cream, and fireworks when we visited him.

Edwin, Hope you’re doing well. The system doesn’t allow me to update subscriptions. You may have to resubscribe with that email address. I wish there was a way I could help on that.
