Jackson is a small town almost midway between Macon and Atlanta and like any small town has some wonderful old historic homes near its courthouse square. Numerous examples of various architectural styles give a lot of character to the area but there is no National Register historic district. Considering the quality of the homes, such as this simple Queen Anne cottage, I’m a bit surprised that there hasn’t been a local effort to seek more recognition for this neighborhood.

Am very familiar with Jackson, a few miles NW of Macon. It has several huge old mansions, built nearly 100 years ago when the town was quite prosperous. Check out the Carmichael mansion, built in a rise giving it a view of what was below. The original owner got rich building buggies, before Henry Ford made them obsolete. The house was built with lead pipe plumbing, however, which over time caused several members of his family to suffer from lead poisoning. Tragic. Some friends of mine later bought the building, renovated it, and turned it into a B&B/event center, before selling it and moving on. Very interesting history behind that house. The neighboring mansion is also huge, and must have a story behind it, but I don’t know its history.
Very nice and a beautiful home.
