In many ways, it looks very similar to the post office in Dalton, Ga., on Thornton Avenue. It was built in the 1960s as well, but I’m not sure of the exact date. The old post office in Dalton was in the middle of downtown, on South Hamilton Street, and is a replica of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. It now houses the Dalton Chamber of Commerce.
Thanks for documenting Georgia. I enjoy your photos and the history behind them.
The old post office building was much better-looking. 1960s-era federal architecture is pure modernist cookie-cutter, uninspired stuff.
