I made this photograph in 2013 and don’t know the fate of this little saddlebag cottage. It was located near a larger farm, so I presume it was a tenant dwelling.

I love the look of this little house.
Thank you for sharing. Note the thoughtful and ingenious design of this simple structure: a central chimney, to heat both sides, and a porch on half of the front, with an overhang to protect it from the elements, giving residents a quiet place to enjoy the mornings or evening sun, but still protected from summer sun or spring rains.
It may have been plain and simple, but probably withstood the elements because of sound construction, all these years later. It probably had a well for water, and a privy out back too. Kerosene lamps for light at night. Simple but sturdy, and low-cost.
Nowadays, “low-cost” dwellings usually means a mobile home, with electricity, indoor plumbing, probably a satellite dish on the roof for TV reception, a refrigerator, stove, microwave, washer and dryer.
How far we have come!
